Franschhoek Solar Panel Mounting

InfoLED was tasked to design a residential solar panel hybrid system for it’s client in Franschhoek, Cape Town. We did the mounting and installation. The customer requirement was to start with a battery backup first to ensure energy security, and later to add solar PV to reduce cost. A modular approach was initiated that was followed to a full solar PV solution, expanding from initial battery backup as the budget allowed.

⬤ 01. Challenges

InfoLED settled on adjustable mounting racks.

We were tasked by InfoLED to Install and mount the solar panels on the client’s home roof. With all types of mounting solutions, including railless systems considered, InfoLED settled on adjustable mounting racks.

Equipped with integrated mechanisms that allowed tilting of angles towards the angle corresponding to the maximum value of average insolation.

⬤ 02. Solutions

Screws were used to attach the mounting to the structure but no special flashing was required.

These mounts are capable of being adjusted both horizontally and vertically with a height up to 6″, meaning they can be attached to the truss or rafter with no tile cutting needed. Screws were used to attach the mounting to the structure but no special flashing was required.

It can be observed that the installation of an adjustable mounting rack can provide more electricity production compared to the current orientation.
